Uncle Peyton's birthday

My father's brother, Peyton, and my Aunt Renee (who is French and has a great accent), surrounded by, on the left, little Peyton and me and, on the right, Michael, Bill, Audrey and little Mary. Michael appears to be happily anticipating birthday cake, doesn't he?

Great birthday picture of my brother Peyton's birthday...Some of you might not know this, but Peyton was a well known doctor in North Palm Beach..At his funeral, I met some of his patients who loved him so much..One was a Catholic nun who told me that he sang to her when she was sick in the hospital..Like brother Jerry, he was also a super athlete, who play most sports very well, especially golf in his adult years..He loved fishing and spent a lot of time in the Florida Keys..
One funny story about brothers Jerry, Peyton and me..Once we played golf together at the Mobile Country Club..You could cut the tension with a knife..On the first tee, Peyton says, "OK boys, it's only a game"...We played the afternoon that Alabama and Auburn played a big football game, and we had the entire course to ourselves...Leo/Uncle Leo/Grandy
Ah, the legendary Denton male competitiveness. Yikes. One time, I told Jerry (my brother, not your's!) that I couldn't understand why the boys in the family are so competitive. I said I didn't feel any competition towards them at all. He looked down at me, eyebrow raised and said, "You're a girl. You're not even in the race." Thank goodness! There are a few Denton men who don't seem to be so fiercely, openly competitive and I've always put you in that category. Am I right?

To answer Madeleine's queston about me and Denton traditional intense sports competitive spirit..When Jerry and Peyton played each other, it was like World War lll...I mean it was fierce, almost to the death of each...I liked and tried to win, and believe it or not, sometimes I did beat them...But we each enjoyed and treasured our victories..I was considered competitive, but not near as much as my two brothers..I was the best tennis player in the family because I concentrated on tennis after I got my tennis scholarship to play at Springhill...And by the way, I was their #1 man on the varsity when I was a freshman, and we beat Southeast Conference teams including Alabama...I truly believe that if Jerry and Peyton had concentrated on golf in their early years, they would have played on the PGA tour, not as well as Tiger, but better than many of the pros..I would have loved to see them play on Sundays on TV....Uncle Leo
