Kathy was the first of Jim's girlfriends that I ever met and I cried when they broke up. She was nice to me and I was a tad attention-starved, or as I've learned , I have an insatiable need for attention from loved ones. The picture was taken at Don and Bran's wedding at our house in King's Grant, in the late 60's. Mary looks like the afternoon has gotten a little long for her. Or maybe she's sad because either or both our cat and dog died that day. My memory is a little foggy. Looking at this picture makes me wish I'd been a better big sister to this little girl. A lot better.
Clare was my office aide nearly two years ago and has become a good friend. She'll forgive that annoying "extraordinaire" rhyme, but will recognize the annoyingness of it. She recommended one of my favorite songs, The Crow and the Butterfly. There's a lot more I could say about Clare but I'll just leave it at that. For now.
Jim sent me a copy of this letter that twenty year old Jerry had written to him from the army , reminding Jim that Mom's birthday was coming up and giving him money to distribute the rest of us to buy her something. Also, reminded him to make Easter nice for Mom. Poetically phrased... "Make sure Mom doesn't have to scream and yell at the kids on Easter." The print on my copy is pale but the heartfeltedness of the message came through loud and clear.
