Jessi the Devil-Dog

The weekend is here...

I had the best time last weekend with my friend, Michele. This picture was taken of us ages ago. Maybe ten years ago. I drove my semi-new little green Altima down to San Antonio, listening to Tale of Two Cities all the way, and spent the weekend with her - and Sy, except he made himself scarce. We shopped, scrapbooked, talked a lot of girl talk, ate thai food, had lunch with her adorable daughter, Rachel (Micah's oldest and dearest friend) at Texas State, and I loved every moment of it. I'm grateful for her friendship. On the way home, I stopped in Austin, had dinner and spent some time with David which was wonderful. Then, a four day week, and it's another weekend. Cold, so we can have a fire. David and Micah are coming home for the weekend so it's going to be great. I was going to cook something delicious for them but, instead, have wasted about four hours on the computer. They won't be surprised.

Randomly Chosen

To save myself the excruciating decision-making process, once a week, I will stick my hand in my box of Denton pictures and pull one out, at random, and write about it. This one was taken the night before Jerry left for Vietnam. When I'd looked at it, through the years, I'd always thought we were sitting in front of the window that was next to the kitchen table, but, now I can't figure out where we are. I guess that's the window in the living room that faces the lake. Probably so, because I also have a couple of pictures, taken that night, in front of the fireplace. One thing's for sure... all but one of us looks like we "get it" and are in shock at the prospect. I can only imagine what was going on in poor Jerry's mind. July '69, right? So, that makes him 22 and a quarter. Wow. The title "Randomly Chosen" refers to my new method of picture choosing. If Jerry had been drafted, that would've been a nice little play on words, but, alas, he volunteered, so I can't claim to have been so clever to have come up with the double meaning.

I have a couple of wonderful pictures of the night he came home, with the Kirkpatricks and huge smiles in the pictures. I'll post one of them in a few days. A blog cliff-hanger...

David and Maury on a beautiful summer day. And, isn't Allie precious in the background?
Ben (Jerry's 4th son)and his girlfriend, Claire, before going to the Military Ball last weekend.

Micah with Mimi and Irene at the pool

This is a recipe for Potato Chip Cookies that Mimi served to Terry and me when we visited her on Hunter Ave., shortly after we got married. With typical lack of follow-through, I've never actually baked the cookies but maybe one of you will. I was going to type the recipe and just realized it will be better to present in her handwriting.

Happy birthday, Fontaine, The Naturalist

This picture was taken when you, Tommy, David, and Terry went to Costa Rica a few years ago. I tried to find one of the pictures of you with a tarantula crawling on your face, or a slimey-looking toad the size of a chicken in your hands, or an iguana with giant teeth, perched on your shoulder, but this rather sweet parrot in your lap will have to do.

Can this precious bundle be TWO already? She gets more adorable every day and Anabelle's mommy and daddy need to send me some new pictures so I can show everyone her angelic face!

James Steele Denton - Dashing? Debonaire? Devilish? Don't know. There's just something about him.

Question: Good Lord, who are these pathetic children?
Answer: The M Society - Through the Good Times and The Bad
Photo taken on the Beatty's lawn in Washington. I think this was the trip when Mom said she saw a bear, in the woods at a rest stop. At least I think she said that. anyone esle remember it that way? I've always believed that story but, now that I think of it, I'm not sure there were bears in those woods in 1967.

I miss Tricia. And, I didn't want to miss an opportunity to post a better-than-reality picture of myself :)

Katherine's (and, technically, Mike's, also) dog, Lucy

Why does this little girl not have on a pretty party dress? She's obviously waiting to greet her guests.

Someone takes a picture of Don adjusting projector so we can look at pictures of ourselves that Mike is narrating, while highlighting with a laser pointer, while Jake sits with camera in lap, prepared to take a picture of us watching ourselves. How self-absorbed are we anyway? But yet, I love it so!!!

Leila, the junkyard dog, a catahoula who spent six months in a shelter cage before David rescued her and Terry adopted her. She's spent her most recent two months wreaking havoc on our home. She is pretty lovable if you can overlook her territorial nature, propensity toward chewing, lack of interest in house training.
